Privacy Policy

The Navy League of the United States (Navy League) respects the privacy of its members and other visitors to its website and online community. The Navy League strongly believes that if electronic commerce and online activities are to flourish, members must be assured that information provided online is used responsibly and appropriately. To protect online privacy, the Navy League has implemented the following Privacy Policy.

Information Collection and Use

We reserve the right to share information with trusted third-party vendors that provide contracted services for the Navy League and its membership. Those select vendors have been provided a copy of this policy and are expected to maintain your data according to these standards.

Information collected on the Navy League website from its visitors is done to fulfill requests inclusive of, but not limited to, ordering Navy League publications, providing assistance, offering Navy League-approved goods and services, as well as facilitating communications between members through the online community.

The Navy League will not sell, share, or rent this information to others in ways other than those disclosed in this Policy.

The Navy League does not collect any personal information from users browsing its public website. Users to the public areas of the Navy League website browse anonymously. Only aggregate data -- such as the number of hits per page -- are collected. Aggregate data is only used for internal and marketing purposes and does not provide any personally identifying information.

Credit Card Account Information

The Navy League does not disclose credit card account information provided by its members and customers. When members and customers choose to pay online for goods and services offered by the Navy League using their credit cards, the Navy League does, however, submit the information needed to obtain payment to the appropriate clearinghouse. When credit card information is collected and transferred, we use industry standard SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) encryption.

Navy League members who change or provide their email address to the Navy League may receive periodic email messages describing the legislative, public affairs, meetings and convention, membership, dues notices, development updates or other activities of the Navy League. Upon receipt of the email newsletters, the user may decide to opt-out of the email distribution list by following the instructions at the bottom of the email message. In addition, as a member, you may opt out at any time by updating your preferences within your Member Profile Page by sending an email to, or by calling us at 800-356-5760 or 703-528-1775.

Members who have chosen to publish their email address within either the online community or a printed membership directory do so with the expectation of privacy. At no time are these email addresses to be used for solicitation.

Contests, Giveaways, & Surveys

Occasionally, the Navy League may offer contests, promotional giveaways, or surveys. Participation is completely voluntary and the user therefore has a choice whether or not to disclose such information as user contact and demographic information. Information collected may be used to contact participants of prize notification or for solicitation purposes such as sending a request to join the Navy League.

Use of Cookies

Cookies are pieces of information that a website transfers to a visitor's hard drive for recordkeeping purposes. The use of cookies is an industry standard -- you'll find them at most major websites.

Whether you're a Navy League member or website visitor, the website will set a cookie on your machine, which will identify you as a member or visitor. For Navy League members, the cookie facilitates your access to protected areas of the site and pre-populates information on certain forms to save you from re-keying your information. For both Navy League members and website visitors, the use of cookies facilitates the delivery of custom content and images.

Most browsers are initially set up to accept cookies. You can reset your browser to refuse all cookies, or to indicate when a cookie is being sent. However, note that some parts of the Navy League website will not function properly without the use of cookies.

Use of IP Addresses

An IP address is a number that's automatically assigned to your computer whenever you're surfing the Web. Web servers automatically identify your computer by its IP address.

The Navy League collects IP addresses for the purposes of system administration and to audit the use of our site. When visitors request pages from the Navy League, our servers log the visitors' IP addresses. We do not link IP addresses to anything personally identifiable, which means that a user's session will be logged, but the user remains anonymous to us.

Links to Other Sites

The Navy League website includes links to other sites. These sites are beyond our control. These other sites may send their own cookies to users, collect data or solicit personal information. Please consult the privacy statement of individual sites that are linked to by the Navy League for more specific information.

The Navy League may utilize telemarketers within our Membership Department or Development Department for collection of survey data. Members may opt out of telemarketing at any time by requesting that the caller place you on our Do Not Call list, updating your preferences within your Member Profile Page by sending an email to, or by calling us at 800-356-5760 or 703-528-1775.

The Navy League tries to provide security on pages that request personal data. Unfortunately, no data transmission over the Internet can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. As a result, while we strive to protect your personal information, the Navy League can't ensure or warrant the security of any information you transmit to us or from our online products or services, and you do so at your own risk. Once we receive your transmission, we make our best effort to ensure its security on our systems. When credit card information is collected and transferred, we use industry standard SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) encryption.
